Dear readers,
After a bit of a substack hiatus, it’s me, Rose, bringing you the latest news from WLM HQ. And what news! This week we launch the CURIOUS CROP.
I love this pattern with all my heart. It’s been a true labour of love for Lydia and me. We must have started work on it over a year ago when Lydia dreamt up the idea of a peephole tank top in april/may 2023, inspired by Joyce from Edward Scissorhands.
Our initial iteration was called the “tattle top”, and there were several significant fit issues with this first attempt. So, we went back to the drawing board, and in March this year we’d finalised a new version of the renamed ‘curious crop’… but it still wasn’t quite right! The gauge stretched out too much, the negative ease wasn’t tight enough, the length was just slightly too long, and the armholes were too high. All small tweaks but they felt important.
As they say, the third time’s a charm. Now we’ve changed the gauge and sorted out those issues (no small feat considering we also graded the holes), I believe we have designed… not to toot our own trumpet… the per-fect cropped tank top. After a fantastic test knit, it is time to launch the Curious Crop into the world!
What a total joy it has been seeing all our beautiful testers’ makes and photos. Can we please give it up for the FIT?! Ooof! As ever, at the centre of our design process is the importance that the pattern will look great on a wide range of body shapes. Knitted in finger-weight yarn, there are two views: plain and holey, and 5 sizes of optional bust shaping. It’s in Sizes 1 - 11, roughly fitting a 28 - 67 inch full bust, without bust darts. The full schematic measurements for the garment are below:
Thanks for reading! I hope you’re having a brilliant summer so far!
Stay curious!
Lots of love,
Rose x
