It’s so hard to write these things but I kinda feel like we need to earn your trust that we are in fact interesting! So I’m going to write this like just a wee short bio, I think that’ll be good?
Ive been writing, reading, and drawing incessantly for as long as I can remember and I think I’m still doing very much the same and will keep doing so until I’m not able to anymore. I’m autistic and I’ve got ADHD so my brain is just going one million miles per hour all the time running down rabbit holes and I’m excited to share that more with you!
My art and thinking is baked in with all the weirdness and eccentricities of my upbringing in a beautifully disabled, neurodivergent, queer, poor, arts-focused family. I love music, textiles, design, and dreaming about better futures led by those who are most impacted by our cursed post-colonial, capitalist, misogynistic system.
I was raised around diy punk shows, art schools, churches, and gaelic choirs, a little in the friction of the contemporary vs the traditional and really acutely aware of a lot of the contradictions around that- but I kinda feel like it gives me so much to draw on and makes my brain feel kind of excited having all these disparate bases. I think I really always come back to these places as sources. I spend a lot of time now thinking about untangling all this, sorting the beautiful from the harmful.
I went to the Glasgow School of art and studied painting and printmaking, but I used most of the second half of the degree to focus on making textiles and clothes as a fine art practise. Since I had my kid at 22, I’ve been diagnosed with physical and mental disabilities, changed my faith, became fat, realised I am queer, and I’m on my second of 2 small businesses hahah- so to imagine that I really can explain myself with under 5 years experience with this current iteration of me feels a little unlikely!
I’ve been featured in a handful of exhibitions and publications, done a few artist talks, built an instagram following, and designed and published 11 knitting patterns, made countless sets of underwear, and kept a little boy alive for 5 years- I can’t really be bothered right now to do a full CV and I’m sure you aren’t that fussed ahaha!
Ok this got a little long hmm, I think I’ll probably leave it there and hope you get a bit of the picture of what I’m bringing to the table heh! It’s a nightmare for me trying to edit myself so I’ll just cut it off!
ANYWAY nice to meet you I hope you have a lovely day xx
